The door swung open before Chris could complete connecting his knuckles to the wooden portal, revealing a comely woman with long light brown hair. She looked up at him, startled to see the imposing stranger blocking her planned exit, for some noise had caught her attention and drew her out into the cold evening to investigate. Admittedly, she had not expected to be confronted by such a fine looking specimen. Not after the recent events. Perhaps a haggard older man with a badge, she had prayed. But wait, this man wasn't alone. And that brute Dead Eye Les was worried about seven men. Lynette could only see six men, but maybe there was another out there somewhere. If she played this right, no one would get hurt. She had to warn the new arrivals that there was danger close by. Under her very roof, in fact. And yet her task was to invite them into the trap by playing nice and seducing them to lower their guard.
"Evening, Ma'am," Chris smiled, lowering his hand incase she thought that he might be there to harm her. Bodily harm was the last thing on Lynette's mind, however. The man's smile was so charming that she found herself smiling back at him. He was tall and so very handsome. Just the kind of man that she had been looking for. What kind twist of Fate had led him to their door? she wondered. Especially now? She cast a glancing back into her home.
Noting it, Chris felt the hackles on the back of his neck rise.
Dead Eye Les and his gang were here. He glanced back at his friends,
his eyes connecting with Buck's. Buck gave a small nod, understanding.
Chris pursed his lips and looked back at the lovely creature in
the doorway. Yes. She was nervous all right. He winked at her
and she seemed to relax a bit. "I was wondering, Ma'am, if
we might impose on you for the night. There's a storm rolling
in and..."
"Of course!" Lynette interrupted with an overly bright smile. "It's getting so cold. Please, by all means, come in." She glanced back into her home and called, "Ladies, we have company!"
